It has a sweet & sour taste of raw mangoes and a freshness of mint along with the flavors of spices which makes it really refreshing and yummy. We can add multiple flavors to it according to our tastes & choices like ginger, lemon or even red chilli powder if we like it a little spicy. 😋This is a drink which instantly gives you energy and makes you feel refreshed on a hot summery day. It is full of nutrients and also helps to retain water content in your body and avoids dehydration which is quite common in summer season.Let me share the detailed recipe for making Aam panna at home along with the pictures:

Ingredients:

  • 3 medium sized raw mangoes
  • 4-5 cups water
  • Sugar/ jaggery to taste (ground to powder)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 table spoon of black salt (kala namak)
  • 1 tablespoon of mint leaves (pudina)
  • 1 tablespoon of chaat masala
  • 1 tablespoon of roasted cumin powder (bhuna jeera powder)

Note:

  • We can use jaggery instead of sugar to get the sweetness and to make it a little more healthy.
  • We can increase or decrease the quantity of sugar, salt & spices according to our tastes.
  • We can also increase or decrease the quantity of water if we need it thick or dilute.
  • We can also strain the pulp, but I personally like it fibrous and pulpy as it gives more natural flavor of mangoes and fibres.

Recipe:

1. Wash the raw mangoes thoroughly and put in a pressure cooker. Pressure cook with 3 whistles.

2. Let the pressure settle down and mangoes cool.

5. Transfer the pulp in a blender jar and blend to make a smooth paste.

6. Now, take out the pulp in a mixing bowl. Crush the mint leaves a little and add it to the pulp. We don’t need to grind the mint leaves to paste but to crush a little.

7. Add chaat masala, black salt, roasted cumin powder, ground sugar & salt to taste.

8. Mix the spices & mint leaves with the pulp well and add 4-5 cups of cold or normal water. Mix really well. Store in a bottle or jar and refrigerate for sometime. Serve chilled and enjoy!!
